So, my time at home with Tom all day has sadly come to an end. Today was my first official day back to work at Brainpark and it was actually pretty okay. Luckily, Andrew has taken my last few months of parental leave for himself so he was home for the first day with Tom all day! It was really hard to leave him this morning, but it was also refreshing to spend so many hours out of the house and I know he’s in good hands with his Dad. It also makes me happy that they get to spend some good quality time together before we lose the baby altogether. That being said, it was Tom’s 0.5 birthday on Sunday. He’s growing into such a strong personality. He giggles and laughs and squirms around all over the place. He’s pretty much crawling already which is amazing for his age, and I actually saw him catch himself as he was falling backwards from a sitting position tonight. I didn’t even know babies could do that!

It’s suprisingly refreshing to get back to work, actually. I got to do some user testing with the new feature set and I’m really impressed on the direction the software has moved since I left last June. I’m thinking there are going to be some nice changes to the front end coming up soon that will leave me with my hands full.

So our whole house is/was/is getting sick. It all started with Tom. I think he just got a cold from the weather. It’s his first sickness so he was a little shocked to realize that he couldn’t breath through his nose anymore. The sickness then passed to me, unsurprisingly. I got a wicked cough from which I am slowly recovering. Then Brent came down with it pretty badly and spent two days in bed. Now it seems that Andrew might be catching it, finally. It’s crazy how this stuff travels.

Despite the cold, Tom is still in a great mood. We’re learning from each other every day about fun new things to do together. I really am looking forward to nice weather so we can get outside a little more. There’s a park right next to our house which I’m sure will be a good source of amusement for him. For now, we’re limited to jumperoo-ing, rolling around on the floor together, sitting practice and airplane rides on my legs. I set him up a website at http://www.tommyknuckles.com and am posting pretty regularly if you’re interested.

Since I’m getting about 20 spam comments a day on my old pregnancy blog, I thought I would finally take it down. Alas, I don’t want to let myself forget the joys and pains that I went through during my first pregnancy, so I thought I would move my posts over here…

So, I’m a little late starting this, I know, but better late than never.

So week 11 has arrived. Many pregnant women say pregnancy flies by. Thus far, mine has not. I’m very much looking forward to my first prenatal appointment on friday with the doctor so that I *hopefully* know that everything is going okay inside there!

I’m desperate for some activity. I was doing P90X workouts before I got pregnant, and I know they say that you can keep doing exercise, but these workouts are fairly high impact, so between stopping those and it being freezing outside, I’ve had basically no physical activity in about a month! I’ve got a few prenatal workouts on the way courtesy of amazon.ca but I think I might need to go find something at Chapters or something to tie me over. As you can see from the picture above… I’m getting big!

Mood swings have been the only problem really thus far and they are supposed to end right about now, so it should be smooth sailing for the next couple of months. I haven’t had any morning sickness or cravings. My boobs are very bloated and sore (who thought they could get bigger?!) and I’ve had a few headaches, but I normally get those from time to time anyway.

Well, again it feels like it’s been forever since I posted, but I did manage to finally update the logo up in the corner there to say “designer and mom” from “designer and soon to be mom”. After almost 9 weeks, I think it’s fair to declare myself an official mom. There’s some other areas of the site I’m hoping to finish up, or at least start tonight before I head up to bed.

Life with Tom is awesome. We’re having a blast hanging out during the days, and I still love him to bits – even when he’s screaming in my ear. I’m turning into quite the housewife – cooking, cleaning, laundering, diaper changing and the rest. Sadly, my internet hours have taken quite a hit and I’m not going to lie – I miss it a great deal. I keep having great ideas for some designs and wordpress templates but I haven’t had a chance to work on anything. I’m still getting a little bit of freelance work here and there to keep me sane, but I’m really hoping that I’ll have a good chunk of time in the near future to bring my ideas to life! So much is changing right now in the world of front end design and development with the added enhancements of CSS3 and I hope I don’t fall behind too far. I’ll be putting together a collection of tutorials I want to go through over the next few weeks and I’ll post them here when I do so. As always, I’ve been partially inspired to do so by an article on Smashing Magazine taking a look at Modern CSS Design from the ground up. I think it will be a good start!

Just a quick post to inform you that I now have a son. His name is Thomas Patrick McNally and he graced us with his presence on Friday August 28th, 2009 at 11:39 a.m.

Naturally things have been a little crazy around here and I’m finally starting to be able to move around the house without a baby in my arms. Computer time, however, is limited! I’m sure I’ll be back to posting soon.
