A little off topic, but my sister just sent this to me and I have to post it.
It's been quite a while and I've run across many things to post in the last little while, without really finding the time. So here's a quick run down of some cool stuff on the internets from the past little while.
1. I've recently discovered the lost art of desktop background images (wallpapers). Smashing Magazine has a monthly list they put out, and here's another great list of some beautiful artwork.
2. Great moments in history as portrayed by the Etch-a-Sketch. <3!
3. Discovered Kirtsy while roaming the internet. It's like Digg, but for chicks. Which normally doesn't suit me, but this time it does :)
4. 99 Free Canvas, Paper, Paint, and Metal Textures. I like free stuff. And these are pretty slick.
5. Design for Mankind has launched the first edition of their Mankind Mag! Go check it out!!!
6. I often (even more so lately) ask myself if what I'm doing with my life is actually of value in the greater scheme of things. I am not suggesting for a second that this post answers that question for me, but it does give me a little help. And some suggestions.

I saw this submission from Hot Dish to Ikea Hacker a while back and every time I revisit it I love it more. There are more awesome comments on how to get the glasses etched and still have them safe to drink from. (The original version used frosted glass spray which was toxic!)
One of the comments linked to this post on how to make your own frosted glasses with patterns and such which looks like a ton of fun. Here's another post on how to accomplish the same look.
You can find the original Ikea shelf online here for $80 CAD.

How cool is this? Wallpaper that emits light?! I have no idea how it works but apparently you can turn the wallpaper "on" and "off"...
As long as the wallpaper is turned ‘off’, it is indistinguishable as a source of light. Instead, it is just what it appears to be: wallpaper.

DNA 11 is an Ottawa based company that has come up with some very cool concepts for personalized art. They started off with DNA Portraits, where they will actually send you a swab kit by mail, and then process your DNA in their lab and turn the images into works of art. Very cool and they promise to destroy your DNA sample afterwards, just in case you're worried about being cloned :)
Since their launch, DNA 11 has also come up with Fingerprint Portraits and Kiss Portraits, so if DNA isn't your thing, there is definitely other options for you. Check out their gallery to see more art.
