I just customized an allrecipe.com recipe for dinner and thought it would be cool to record it somewhere. Apparently I can record it on allrecipes.com for $22/year, but that seems silly to pay for, so I think I might make a recipes category on this site.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large bell peppers
  • 3/4 white rice
  • 1 small tomato – diced
  • 1/2 cooking onion – diced
  • 1/2 can of cream of mushroom condensed soup
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • salt, pepper, cayenne pepper to taste
  1. Slice the peppers in half and gut out the insides
  2. Cook the rice. I like to use a rice cooker but a good old pot of water will do just fine.
  3. In a pot, put the peppers in boiling water for about 5 minutes. If you’re worried the peppers will become mushy – you can skip this step and I think the end result will be very similar. It’s important that you don’t boil them for too long or they DEFINITELY will be mushy!
  4. In a sauce pan, mix the cooked rice, mushroom soup, tomato and onion. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes or so. Make sure to keep stirring the mixture or else it will stick to the pot.
  5. Put the peppers on a baking sheet and spoon the mixture in evenly. It will be a little messy as the mix will most likely be overflowing. Mmmm.
  6. Bake for about 15 minutes. Then, switch the oven to Broil on high – add the cheese to the top of the peppers and broil for 3-4 minutes or until its nice and bubbly!

Enjoy :)

Since I’m getting about 20 spam comments a day on my old pregnancy blog, I thought I would finally take it down. Alas, I don’t want to let myself forget the joys and pains that I went through during my first pregnancy, so I thought I would move my posts over here…

2009-01-13
So, I’m a little late starting this, I know, but better late than never.

So week 11 has arrived. Many pregnant women say pregnancy flies by. Thus far, mine has not. I’m very much looking forward to my first prenatal appointment on friday with the doctor so that I *hopefully* know that everything is going okay inside there!

I’m desperate for some activity. I was doing P90X workouts before I got pregnant, and I know they say that you can keep doing exercise, but these workouts are fairly high impact, so between stopping those and it being freezing outside, I’ve had basically no physical activity in about a month! I’ve got a few prenatal workouts on the way courtesy of amazon.ca but I think I might need to go find something at Chapters or something to tie me over. As you can see from the picture above… I’m getting big!

Mood swings have been the only problem really thus far and they are supposed to end right about now, so it should be smooth sailing for the next couple of months. I haven’t had any morning sickness or cravings. My boobs are very bloated and sore (who thought they could get bigger?!) and I’ve had a few headaches, but I normally get those from time to time anyway.

So, I’ve launched a new website called Eco Web Design – you can go check it out at http://www.ecowebdesign.ca. There are some templates there already that I’m pretty happy with considering I threw them together in the last 48 hours between bottles and diaper changes. I’m trying to use some new CSS3 tricks including the font embedding and auto rounded corners. It’s amazing how many images you cut down on when you don’t have to think about those two things!

I’m really hoping to get some more templates done ASAP and get some business cards out to local enviro-friendly businesses. I don’t *really* know what the market is like, so it will be interesting to talk to some business owners if I can get their attention. I’d like to think that there’s a market available, because I really want to use my web design skillz to do something better for the world, and this seems like a good solution. I’m hoping to provide really cost effective solutions to help eco-friendly businesses and organizations get on the web. Of course, if non-eco-friendly businesses need websites, it’s not like I’m going to turn them away :P

It’s been really refreshing doing some templates and new designs to see what I’m still capable of. I like what I came up with, but I have so many more ideas that I hope I can translate to business-y type website designs. Some of my ideas may be a little too off the wall, but we’ll see what I can incorporate. Some of the new CSS3 stuff is really cool, too. I’ll update here as I add more.

Well, again it feels like it’s been forever since I posted, but I did manage to finally update the logo up in the corner there to say “designer and mom” from “designer and soon to be mom”. After almost 9 weeks, I think it’s fair to declare myself an official mom. There’s some other areas of the site I’m hoping to finish up, or at least start tonight before I head up to bed.

Life with Tom is awesome. We’re having a blast hanging out during the days, and I still love him to bits – even when he’s screaming in my ear. I’m turning into quite the housewife – cooking, cleaning, laundering, diaper changing and the rest. Sadly, my internet hours have taken quite a hit and I’m not going to lie – I miss it a great deal. I keep having great ideas for some designs and wordpress templates but I haven’t had a chance to work on anything. I’m still getting a little bit of freelance work here and there to keep me sane, but I’m really hoping that I’ll have a good chunk of time in the near future to bring my ideas to life! So much is changing right now in the world of front end design and development with the added enhancements of CSS3 and I hope I don’t fall behind too far. I’ll be putting together a collection of tutorials I want to go through over the next few weeks and I’ll post them here when I do so. As always, I’ve been partially inspired to do so by an article on Smashing Magazine taking a look at Modern CSS Design from the ground up. I think it will be a good start!

I’m not sure why I thought that I would have time to blog. A newborn seriously limits the amount of time that I can spend online. Not only that, but my life as of late is definitely less interesting that it used to be… or maybe the word ‘interesting’ isn’t quite what I’m looking for. Lets go with ‘varied’. I spend a lot of time hanging out with Tom on the couch, in bed, around the house in general. I try to get out with him as much as possible, but sometimes a good couch day is all we need :)

Happy Turkey Day to all Canadians. Tom, Andrew and I are heading to Cambridge for dinner #1 with my family (including a very, very pregnant sister!) and then making our way over to my friend, Simon’s house for dinner #2. I think dinner #2 will only consist of whatever vegan goodies Luke brings! Being a vegetarian around holidays such as Thanksgiving reduce the amount of gluttony and stomach cramps one has to endure. Dinner #3 will be on Monday in Burlington when Andrew, Tom and I head down to Andrew’s Dad’s place. All in all, feasting will take place, wine will be drank and good times had by all.

I think I should finally take a minute and update that graphic in the header that says “almost mom” to “mom”. After 6 weeks, it’s official!

Just a quick post to inform you that I now have a son. His name is Thomas Patrick McNally and he graced us with his presence on Friday August 28th, 2009 at 11:39 a.m.

Naturally things have been a little crazy around here and I’m finally starting to be able to move around the house without a baby in my arms. Computer time, however, is limited! I’m sure I’ll be back to posting soon.

A new design and a new blog for a new beginning.

I’ve decided to resurrect subsomatic after a slight hiatus. My blogging habits have been slipping for a while and I would very much like to start fresh. The previous version of subsomatic had archives dating back to 2000. That’s nine years of content – some of it good content, most of it bad melodramatic content. I think it’s finally time to start fresh.

I’ve been working on this design for most of the evening and I’m pretty happy with it. It is, however, 1:10 a.m. and I’ve been having minor contractions all night, so at the risk of going into full blown labour for the first time in my life, I should probably get some sleep. I’d be pretty pumped if my next post introduced the world to my new baby!

So cheers to new blogs and new beginnings.
