Rag Rugs, Patches, etc.
I started weaving at summer camp when I was a kid and bought my first floor loom around 2011. After experimenting with different types of weaving, I fell in love with rag rugs because they’re practical, beautiful, and represent a circular economy. Most rugs are woven with recycled materials headed for the landfill. I try and use discarded yarn for the warp whenever possible.
Patches became a new love when I wanted to create on the go. They’re all made with old fabric that can’t be otherwise reused because of rips or stains. Sometimes part embroidery, sometimes sashiko and boro inspired, each patch is made lovingly knowing it will help prolong the life of a favourite piece of clothing, helping keep it from the landfill as well.
I always prefer barter and trade for handmade goods. If you’d like a patch, shoot me a message to kel@subsomatic.com
